Mrs. Lewis’ 4th Graders explored bird beak adaptations. Students attempted “eating” popcorn kernels, rice, and macaroni with chopsticks, forks, tweezers, clothes pins, and skewers for “beaks.” After cleaning up the forest floor, the students ate gummy bears for dessert without using their hands! Science is so much fun!! Shoutout to Ms. Satcher at Park Creek for the idea!

To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, Mrs. Smith’s Pre-K class enjoyed "marranitos", a traditional, Mexican sweet bread shaped like little pigs. The pig shape is a symbol of good luck, so marranitos are more than just bread, they are a special part of Mexican culture and tradition. Special thanks to Ashley Garcia and Canela & Crust for providing the marranitos for our class!

Our First Grade DLI classes wrapped up Unit 1 in Savvas with an exciting research project! After learning about people who work in a neighborhood, they chose to study the role of a Police Officer. Students created research questions and had the special opportunity to ask Officer Warren directly. Together, they collaborated to write an informational book titled Police Officers in our Neighborhood using Book Creator. Yesterday, they presented their finished book to Officer Warren. Thank you, Officer Warren, for all that you do for Westwood!
